Applications
Graphite felts are used in a wide range of insulation applications due to their chemical inertness, heat resistance, low thermal and electrical conductivity, low coefficient of thermal expansion, low coefficient of friction, and low X-ray and electron absorption coefficients.
Specific applications include crude steel production, aluminum production, petrochemical industry, chemical processing industry, metallurgical industry and ceramic industry. As these industries need to operate their processes at extreme temperatures, the demand for high-temperature insulation products, such as graphite felts, is increasing.
Graphite felts are particularly suitable as insulators in applications such as high-temperature vacuum furnaces and inert gas furnaces.
For battery applications, PAN-based graphite felts are commonly used as electrode backings in various battery designs, such as vanadium redox flow batteries (VRBs), where the permeable electrodes are made of graphite felts with high electrical conductivity, high purity and high chemical resistance.
Semiconductor applications, graphite felts and related components are also used in manufacturing processes in the semiconductor, LED and solar industries.
